I read somewhere that the mind is a pond, and that your thoughts are stones.

The constant buzz of work, health, politics, social networking, entertainment, relationships, and daily life attack the modern mind. At times, one cannot see past the chaotic wake that the barrage of thought leaves behind.

....Take a moment every now and then, to let go of control and slow down....

Only then can you see the effect of your conscious thoughts; how they react to the surface, how deep they go.

Do you have the patience to wait till your mud settles and the water is clear?
Can you remain unmoving till the right action arises by itself?

Took a break from 'Manney' to do more work on the 1920's kids.
There are so many amazing photos at shorpy.com to keep my pencil moving.

These kids on average wouldn't make it past 30. The mines were a very dangerous place to work. They had to use oil lamps to light their way, which usually led to explosions; what with coal being flammable n all.
Makes me appreciate my desk job. :D

Hellooooooo.

Been a while eh?

Ive been busy working away on a short film for the 'Cartoon Smart Toon Boom Animation contest'.

It was a really fun break to potentially win some animation software. But alas I had the bright idea to step a bit outside the contest boundaries and made a short film that was a little to far away from the style they were asking for. So I didn't win :P.

But I still would like to share the short with y'all.

Ive just got so little to do and so much time to do it!!...

The absense of post-secondary/commercial deadlines had almost laid to waste my work ethic. Learning to 'drive slow, yet efficiently' wasn't easy. But im getting used to it.

Aaaaand.. a huge section of my current work plate was sent back to editorial, so now I have even MORE time to do less.

The result? more blog postin :).

The top image are a couple doodles from the many scraps of paper hangin round my desk.

The previous post has more development for a 'lil/big' project im into. Its gona be short, but its gona take me long. However its an idea I really like, so I know ill finish it. :)

30's

Just some more pages from the bi-weekly life sessions. Its enough to keep the hand from crampin up around the PC.

...Well... I was having an 'off day' today. -_-

Maybe it was the excess coffee... or 9 hours of animation... or having the theme from happy days drilled into my head...

Regardless, I was getting frustrated.

And then I remembered college.

This photo was taken at my parents house sometime after school. I took an evening to "clean out" all the life drawing I did over my years in sheridan state penn... .i.. er.. uh... mean. college. :).

Flipping through the old pads, to see if there were any little bits of drawing that I liked and wanted to keep, I was amazed at the volume of complete and utter garbage.

And im sure your giggling at the towering "stack of suck" (on the left), compared to the minimal "sliver of half decency" (right).

It was crazy to see the difference in my drawing skill, and how it had evolved over the years. It also reminded me of all the great teachers that influenced and guided me. And it sure re-inforced the idea that an artist will never stop learning: and that it takes heap of crappy drawings, and 'off days' to climb that ladder.

.....still climbing..... :)

So here it is.. well... as done as its going to be.
I was starting to feel that the more strokes I put down, the worse it was looking. I'm still trying to grasp this whole painting deeley, I think my head is still locked into "animation" mode.
However, I did learn a lot in doing this painting!

Heres a little snippit of a painting I'm planning to finish. (for real this time!.... no seriously, stop laughing).The lower image was my warm up sketch for today.

Working at Starz has been pretty hectic, which is the reason for a lack of posts over the past months... among other things (girlfriend, keeping fit, video games, drinking with my buddies, racketeering, assasination attempts, sacrificial cerimonies..... ) busy, busy, busy!
